Every device sold through Plug undergoes a comprehensive, multi-stage certification process before it ever reaches a customer. Our facility is R2 certified, the highest standard for responsible electronics processing. From initial diagnostics to final grading, our goal is simple: deliver premium devices that look great, perform flawlessly, and come with real protection.
When you see 'Plug Certified,' it means the device has passed our 90+ point inspection, been accurately graded for cosmetic condition, had its data securely erased, and earned the backing of our 1-year warranty.
The 90+ Point Inspection
Our certification process combines industry-leading automated diagnostics with hands-on quality checks by our trained QC team. Every device runs through 80+ automated checkpoints, followed by manual inspection and verification that brings our total to 90+ points.
Display & Touch: Screen integrity, touch responsiveness across all zones, pixel accuracy, brightness levels, and haptic feedback functionality.
Audio: Earpiece, loudspeaker, microphone input, noise cancellation, and headphone jack (where applicable).
Buttons & Ports: Power, volume, mute/action button, charging port, and data transfer verification.
Battery Health: Charge capacity relative to original spec, charge cycle count, and ability to hold and receive charge. Devices must have a battery health of 80% or higher.
Battery Threshold Review: Secondary manual review to confirm 80%+ capacity beyond what automated diagnostics flag. A double-check to make sure your battery is ready for the long haul.
Cameras & Sensors: Front and rear camera focus, exposure, flash, biometric sensors (Face ID / Touch ID), proximity sensor, accelerometer, and gyroscope.
Connectivity: WiFi, Bluetooth, cellular signal, GPS accuracy, NFC, and SIM tray functionality including test calls and SMS.
Lock & Activation: Manufacturer locks, carrier locks, MDM profiles, and activation lock status verified clear. Every device is fully unlocked.
IMEI / ESN Verification: Cross-referenced against national databases to confirm the device is not reported lost, stolen, or blacklisted.
Data Erasure: NIST 800-88 compliant data wipe with secondary verification that all personal data, accounts, and profiles have been fully removed.
Parts Authenticity: Automated scan for aftermarket or non-OEM replacement components including screens, batteries, and internal modules.
OEM Parts Visual Check: Physical hands-on inspection layered on top of the automated scan for added confidence.
Software & Reset: Full operating system verification, factory reset, and confirmation the device is running the latest available OS version.
Cosmetic Grading: Hands-on visual inspection by our QC team to assign Excellent, Great, or Good status.
Full Power-On QC: Complete boot-up and user experience walkthrough to verify real-world performance before shipping.
Accessories & Packaging: Verification of all included items and secure packaging to ensure the device arrives protected.
Final Certification: QC team sign-off and Plug Certified badge assignment. Only devices that pass every checkpoint earn this status.
