Cheap Apple Watch: When in the Holiday Season Do Prices Dip?
Updated on | 12 mins readWait for Black Friday, or buy the watch now? Last year's record gives you a plan: a cheap Apple Watch cost the least from Black Friday weekend into early January. The catch is that the date you buy matters less than the watch you pick.
Last year, retailers cut Apple Watch prices most broadly over Black Friday weekend (Nov 28 to Dec 1, 2025). The lowest Series 11 price we could document came later, at $299 in early January 2026, $100 under list. The SE 3 sat at $199 at every point we checked. So timing was worth $50 to $100, and choosing a cheaper model saved more.

The Short Answer: Timing Helps, the Model Helps More
Waiting for the right week can save you up to $100 on one watch, while picking a different model can save you as much or more on any day. Here is how last year's documented prices lined up, all for the GPS version of the smaller size:
| Model | List price | Black Friday weekend 2025 | Lowest we could document | Saved by timing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SE 3 (40mm) | $249 | $199 at Amazon | $199 | $50 |
| Series 11 (42mm) | $399 | $339, then $329 on Cyber Monday | $299 (Jan 2026) | $70 to $100 |
| SE 2 (40mm) | Varies by seller | $129 at Walmart | $129 | n/a |
Now look across the rows. At their lowest, the SE 3 cost $100 less than the Series 11. The SE 2 cost $70 less than the SE 3. Think of timing as a coupon and the model as the price tag itself: the coupon is nice, but the tag decides most of what you pay.
For 2026, the calendar lands like this. Thanksgiving is Thursday, Nov 26, so Black Friday is the next day, Friday, Nov 27. Cyber Monday is the Monday after, Nov 30. Christmas falls on a Friday, Dec 25. Retailers set their own prices for each of those days, so treat last year's numbers as a guide and check the seller's price on the day. If you are weighing the two holidays across all Apple gear, see when Apple prices are lowest, Black Friday or Christmas.
The Holiday Price Calendar: September to January
Apple Watch deals moved in steps last season, starting with Apple's September launch and ending in January. Here is how each stretch went, using dated reports:
- September (the launch): Apple's new watches arrive and the lineup shifts. Series 12 and Ultra 4 reached stores on Friday, Sept 18, 2026, per Apple's newsroom. Apple's store now lists Series 12, SE 3 and Ultra 4, which leaves last year's Series 11 and Ultra 3 with retailers to clear.
- October (early sales): The first markdowns show up on the newest model. Macworld reported a Series 12 46mm at $399, $50 off its $449 price, during October's Prime Day sale.
- Mid to late November (early deals): Some retailers start their holiday pricing before Thanksgiving week. Prices here vary too much from store to store to give you a fair benchmark.
- Black Friday and Cyber Monday (the broad dip): This is when most models dropped at once. On Nov 28, 2025, MacRumors listed the Series 11 42mm at $339 at Amazon ($60 off), the SE 3 40mm at $199.99 and the 44mm at $229.99. By Cyber Monday, Dec 1, Macworld reported the Series 11 42mm at $329.
- Christmas week (holding steady): Business Insider's after-Christmas roundup on Dec 27, 2025 still listed the SE 3 40mm at $199. We couldn't document mid-December prices, so we can't tell you whether that week dipped lower.
- Early January (the surprise low): The Series 11 went lower after the holidays. MacRumors reported $299 for the 42mm on Jan 2, 2026, and on Jan 10 it listed Amazon and Best Buy at $299 for the 42mm GPS and $329 for the 46mm GPS, each $100 off.
Apple's own Black Friday event last year (Nov 28 to Dec 1) worked differently. It paid a $50 Apple Gift Card with an SE 3 or Series 11 instead of cutting the price, per MacRumors.
This means a shopper who bought the Series 11 on Black Friday paid $40 more than one who waited until January. A shopper who bought the SE 3 on Black Friday paid the same as everyone else. For more on whether Apple Watches go on sale on Black Friday, see our deal breakdown.
Which Cheap Apple Watch to Buy: SE 3, Series 11, SE 2
The best Apple Watch for a tight budget is the SE 3 for most people, and the cheapest watch overall is an older SE 2. Here is how each one fits:
1. Apple Watch SE 3
This is Apple's lowest-priced new watch. Apple lists it from $249 for the 40mm and $279 for the 44mm, so check Apple's price on the day. Per Apple's spec page, it runs the S10 chip, has an Always-On Retina display and gets up to 18 hours of battery life in normal use. If you want notifications, workouts and sleep tracking on your wrist, this covers it.
2. Apple Watch Series 11
Last year's flagship is the model retailers are clearing now that Series 12 is out. It's the one where waiting paid off most last season, from $399 down to $299. Pick it over the SE 3 if you'd use its extra features enough to justify roughly $100 more at sale prices. Check Apple's compare page for which health features each model has before you decide, or read our SE vs Series vs Ultra comparison.
3. Apple Watch SE 2 and Series 10
These older models are the cheapest on sale. The SE 2 hit $129 last Cyber Monday, and the Series 10 was cleared at a discount once the Series 11 arrived. Before you buy either one, look up the exact model on Apple's compatibility page to see which watchOS version it runs.
For comparison, the new Series 12 starts at $399 for the 42mm and $449 for the 46mm. MacRumors reported in September that the 46mm price rose $20, the first increase for the larger aluminum Apple Watch since Series 4 in 2018. The Apple Watch Ultra isn't a cheap watch in any season: last year's Black Friday low on the Apple Watch Ultra 3 was $699.99 at Amazon.
When the Cheapest Watch Isn't a Sale Watch: Plug Certified
On any ordinary Tuesday, a Plug Certified Apple Watch can cost less than many new watches do on Black Friday. Here are Plug's starting prices on Oct 23, 2026 (prices move, so check the live listing):
- SE 2 (40mm, GPS): from $119.99
- Series 9 (41mm, GPS): from $179.99
- Series 10 (42mm, GPS): from $229.99
- Apple Watch Ultra (49mm): from $319.99
- Ultra 2 (49mm, GPS + Cellular): from $399.99
Here's the worked number. Last Cyber Monday, Macworld reported a new Series 10 46mm at $279 at Walmart. Plug's Series 10 46mm GPS starts at $244.99 today, with no sale date to wait for. A sale price is a one-week price on a new watch. A Plug Certified price is the everyday shelf price on an earlier generation.
Every watch goes through Plug's 90+ Point Inspection, then gets graded Good, Great or Excellent. The grade describes looks only: every grade gets the same tests and the same cover. That cover is Plug's 12-Month Warranty, which covers hardware and software faults under normal use, not accidental damage. Plug adds 30-day returns, and shipping is free on US orders.
The trade-off is worth knowing up front. A Plug Certified watch is an earlier generation than the newest one in Apple's store, and the warranty is Plug's own, not Apple's. If you want the latest Series 12 straight from Apple, a sale is your route. If you want a good watch for the least money, start with the certified price and see whether a sale beats it.
Before You Pay: A Low-Price Checklist
A low price is only a good deal if the watch works for you and you can send it back. Run through these before you check out:
- Seller and Condition: Confirm whether the watch is new, open-box or pre-owned, and who is selling it. From a private seller, expect a used watch sold as-is.
- Return Window: Apple gives you 14 days from the day you receive a watch bought from Apple. A gift bought Black Friday weekend can run out of return time before Christmas, so review the return-by date on your order before you buy early.
- GPS or Cellular: Cellular models cost more and need a plan with your carrier. GPS models use your iPhone's connection.
- Case Size: Sizes changed between generations (40, 41, 42, 44, 45 and 46mm), and a band from one watch may not fit another.
- Activation Lock: It should be off before you pay. The previous owner erases and unpairs the watch and, on a cellular model, cancels the plan.
- Software Support: Check the exact model on Apple's compatibility page, along with the iPhone it needs.
- Battery: Battery life depends on battery health. On the watch, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health and look at Maximum Capacity. For upkeep, see these tips for keeping Apple Watch battery health strong.
Buying for Someone Else: A Gift-Giver's Short List
An Apple Watch is a gift that depends on the recipient's phone, so check a few things first:
- Their iPhone: The watch pairs with their iPhone, not yours. Apple's compatibility page lists the newest watches as needing an iPhone 11 or later, and older watches have their own requirements.
- Their Wrist: Pick the case size and band size that fit them, or choose a band that adjusts.
- A Gift Receipt: Ask for one wherever you buy, so they can exchange the watch without you.
- Returns From Plug: If you buy a Plug Certified watch, your order comes with 30-day returns.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the price of the cheapest Apple Watch?
New from Apple, the 40mm Apple Watch SE 3 is the cheapest at $249, with the 44mm at $279. Pre-owned goes lower, and upgrades cost little there. On Oct 23, 2026, stepping up to the bigger 44mm case at Plug added $10 ($129.99), and adding cellular to the smaller one added $5. Today's price is on the listing.
What is better, the Apple Watch SE or a Series?
It depends on how long you go between charges. Per Apple's spec pages, the SE 3 lasts up to 32 hours in Low Power Mode and the Series 12 up to 38. The Series 12 also runs the newer S11 chip and peaks at 2,000 nits of brightness against the SE 3's 1,000.
Are there Apple Watch SE deals on Black Friday?
Yes, from retailers, though not from Apple's own store, where the SE 3 kept its list price. Read the size in a deal headline. Last year the 44mm SE 3 sold for $229.99 at Amazon against Apple's $279, so the bigger case saved about $50 too.
Do Apple products ever go on sale?
Yes, mostly through retailers. In the two launches we checked, Series 10 and Series 11 both started at $399, and Apple stopped selling the older model rather than cutting its price. Apple's gift-card offer last November also left out its refurbished products and the Apple Watch Ultra 3, so retailers carried the real price cuts. If you are shopping for more than a watch, see our guides to cheap Apple products, cheap AirPods, a cheap MacBook, and whether older iPhones get cheaper when a new one launches.
When's the best time to buy an Apple Watch?
It depends on who it's for. For a gift, Black Friday weekend gave last year's broad dip, and the SE 3 never went lower after it. For yourself, a Series model was cheapest after the holidays. If a price you can live with shows up on a model you'd be glad to own, buy it.
