How to Charge Apple Pencils

Charging Apple Pencil (1st Generation):

  1. Using Your iPad:

    • Step 1: Remove the cap from the end of your Apple Pencil to reveal the Lightning connector.
    • Step 2: Plug the Lightning connector into the Lightning port on your iPad.
    • Step 3: Your iPad will start charging the Apple Pencil immediately.
  2. Using the Lightning Adapter:

    • Step 1: Use the included Lightning adapter that came with your Apple Pencil.
    • Step 2: Connect the Lightning adapter to the Apple Pencil’s Lightning connector.
    • Step 3: Plug a Lightning cable into the other end of the adapter and connect it to a power source like a USB power adapter or your computer.

Charging Apple Pencil (2nd Generation):

  1. Using Your iPad:
    • Step 1: Attach the flat side of the Apple Pencil to the magnetic connector on the right side of your iPad.
    • Step 2: Ensure that the Apple Pencil is properly aligned with the connector. You should see a notification on your iPad screen indicating that the Apple Pencil is charging.
    • Step 3: The Apple Pencil will charge wirelessly while attached to the iPad.

Checking the Battery Level:

  • On Your iPad:
    • Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Notification Center or swipe right to access the Today View.
    • Add the Battery widget if it’s not already there. This widget will display the battery levels of your iPad and the connected Apple Pencil.
  • With the Apple Pencil (2nd Generation):
    • Attach the Apple Pencil to the magnetic connector on your iPad. A notification will briefly appear on the screen showing the current battery level.

Additional Tips:

  • Keep the Apple Pencil Cap Secure (1st Generation): The cap is small and can be easily lost. Be mindful of where you place it when charging your Apple Pencil.
  • Ensure Proper Attachment (2nd Generation): Make sure the Apple Pencil is securely attached to the magnetic connector on your iPad to ensure it charges properly.
  • Use Certified Accessories: Always use Apple-certified cables and adapters to charge your Apple Pencil to avoid potential damage.
