How do I pair my Apple Watch with a new iPhone or other devices?

How to Pair Your Apple Watch with a New iPhone or Other Devices

1. Unpair from the Old iPhone

If you still have access to your old iPhone, it’s best to unpair your Apple Watch from it first.

Using the Apple Watch App on the Old iPhone:

  • Open the Apple Watch App: On your old iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
  • Go to My Watch Tab: Tap on the "My Watch" tab.
  • Unpair Apple Watch: Tap on the information icon (i) next to your Apple Watch, then tap "Unpair Apple Watch." Confirm the action and enter your Apple ID password if prompted. This will back up your watch’s data and erase the watch.

2. Set Up with Your New iPhone

Restore from Backup:

  1. Turn On Your New iPhone: Follow the setup steps until you reach the Apps & Data screen.
  2. Restore from iCloud Backup: Select "Restore from iCloud Backup" and choose the most recent backup that includes your Apple Watch data.

Pair Your Apple Watch:

  1. Turn On Your Apple Watch: Press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
  2. Bring Your iPhone Near: Keep your iPhone close to your Apple Watch. A setup screen should appear on your iPhone.
  3. Start Pairing: Tap "Continue" on your iPhone. If the setup screen doesn’t appear, open the Apple Watch app and tap "Start Pairing."
  4. Position Your iPhone Over the Animation: Align your iPhone so that the Apple Watch appears in the viewfinder of the Apple Watch app. This will pair the devices.
  5. Restore from Backup: If prompted, choose to restore your Apple Watch from a backup to keep your data and settings.

3. Pair with a Different Device

If you are pairing with a different iPhone or other compatible device, follow these steps:

  1. Turn On the Apple Watch: Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
  2. Bring Device Near: Ensure the new device is near your Apple Watch.
  3. Open the Apple Watch App: On the new device, open the Apple Watch app.
  4. Start Pairing: Tap "Start Pairing" and follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. Position Over the Animation: Align the device so that the Apple Watch appears in the viewfinder to pair.
  6. Set Up as New or Restore: Choose to set up as new or restore from a previous backup if available.

4. Troubleshooting Tips

  • Ensure Both Devices are Updated: Make sure both your new iPhone and Apple Watch have the latest software updates installed.
  • Keep Devices Charged: Ensure both devices have sufficient battery life or are connected to a charger during the setup process.
  • Stay Close: Keep your Apple Watch and iPhone close together until the setup is complete.
  • Restart Devices: If the pairing process fails, try restarting both your Apple Watch and iPhone and attempt the process again.

By following these steps, you can successfully pair your Apple Watch with a new iPhone or other compatible device.
