How to choose an iPhone gift at a price that makes sense

A good iPhone gift is one the recipient wants, in a configuration you can comfortably afford. Start with the price of an available device, then compare storage, cosmetic condition, charging, and carrier setup. A headline discount cannot tell you those details.

Our starting comparison is iPhone 13, iPhone 14, and iPhone 15. These are established models to compare in Plug’s Certified Pre-Owned catalog, not a claim that any of them is Apple’s latest release. Use the current cards above for price and availability.

Choose the useful difference

Three iPhone gift options to compare
Model Why consider it? What to weigh
iPhone 13 A starting point when value and familiar everyday use matter most Lightning charging; compare the actual available condition and price
iPhone 14 A comparison option when its available configuration fits the budget Still uses Lightning; U.S. models require eSIM
iPhone 15 USB-C charging and a 48MP Main camera Worth paying more only if those differences matter to the recipient

See Apple’s specifications for iPhone 13, iPhone 14, and iPhone 15. Features and charging connectors do not tell you how much battery wear an individual pre-owned device has.

Compare like with like

Write down the same storage capacity and condition for each option before comparing prices. A lower starting price may belong to a different condition than the one you intend to give. Open the product page and choose deliberately.

Do not assume more storage is automatically better value. Ask how much space the recipient uses now, whether they keep downloaded media, and whether they already pay for cloud storage. Cloud storage does not replace the space required for every app or downloaded file.

Keep enough budget for the whole gift

Check what the listing includes, then account for any compatible case, charger, or other accessory you need separately. A device-only gift also does not pay the recipient’s ongoing phone bill. Confirm service and activation costs with their provider.

A cosmetic upgrade may matter more than the next model number to someone who cares about presentation. Use the Plug condition guide to make that tradeoff together.

Verify the carrier before checkout

Choose an unlocked listing only after checking that the exact model works with the recipient’s carrier and plan. If their setup depends on a physical SIM, pay particular attention to U.S. iPhone 14 and 15 models. Ask the carrier how activation will work before you commit.

Should you wait for a sale?

If there is no deadline, compare the live selection over time and keep a comfortable spending limit. If the gift is time-sensitive, use the actual delivery estimate and available configuration. This guide does not promise a future promotion or a lowest-ever price.

These are editorial comparisons based on current listings and Apple’s specifications, not a hands-on ranking. If a selected color sells out, the cards may show another available option from the same model collections. For the handoff itself, read how to buy an iPhone as a gift.
