Setting Up Apple Pencil (1st Generation)

Steps to Set Up Your Apple Pencil:

  1. Remove the Cap:

    • Remove the cap from the end of your Apple Pencil. You'll see a Lightning connector.
  2. Connect to Your iPad:

    • Plug the Lightning connector on your Apple Pencil into the Lightning port on your iPad. Ensure that your iPad is unlocked when you do this.
  3. Pair Your Apple Pencil:

    • After plugging in your Apple Pencil, you should see a prompt on your iPad screen asking if you want to pair with the Apple Pencil.
    • Tap "Pair" to connect your Apple Pencil with your iPad.
  4. Check for Compatibility:

    • Ensure that your iPad model is compatible with the Apple Pencil (1st Generation). Compatible models include:
      • iPad (6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th generation)
      • iPad Air (3rd generation)
      • iPad mini (5th generation)
      • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (1st and 2nd generation)
      • iPad Pro 10.5-inch
      • iPad Pro 9.7-inch
  5. Start Using Your Apple Pencil:

    • Once paired, you can start using your Apple Pencil with compatible apps and features. You can write, draw, and interact with your iPad using the Apple Pencil.
    • To check the battery level of your Apple Pencil, you can view the Battery widget in the Today View on your iPad.

  • Charging Your Apple Pencil:
    • To charge your Apple Pencil, plug it into the Lightning port on your iPad. Alternatively, you can use the included Lightning adapter to charge it with a regular Lightning cable.
  • Unpairing and Re-Pairing:
    • If you need to unpair your Apple Pencil, go to "Settings" on your iPad, select "Bluetooth," find your Apple Pencil in the list, and tap the "i" icon next to it. Then, select "Forget This Device." To re-pair, simply follow the setup steps again.
  • Keeping the Cap Secure:
    • The cap on your Apple Pencil is small and can be easily lost. Consider using a cap holder accessory or being extra careful when removing and replacing the cap.
